Key Ingredients and Traditional Uses

Pediatric Seven-Star Tea is traditionally composed of seven Chinese herbal ingredients:

• Coix Seed (Yi Yi Ren / 薏苡仁)

• Rice Sprout (Dao Ya / 稻芽)

• Hawthorn (Shan Zha / 山楂)

• Lophatherum Herb / Bamboo Leaf (Dan Zhu Ye / 淡竹叶)

• Uncaria Hook (Gou Teng / 钩藤)

• Cicada Slough (Chan Tui / 蝉蜕)

• Licorice Root (Gan Cao / 甘草)

Some herbal tea preparations or proprietary formulas may also contain Malt (Mai Ya / 麦芽), Juncus Medullaris / Rush Pith (Deng Xin Cao / 灯心草), and other ingredients. 

Traditional Functions

• Promotes digestion and relieves food stagnation:
  Hawthorn, rice sprout/malt, and coix seed are traditionally used to help relieve food accumulation in children, indigestion, poor appetite, and difficulty with bowel movements.

• Clears heat and calms restlessness:
  Lophatherum herb, Uncaria hook, and cicada slough are traditionally used to clear internal heat, calm the mind, and help relieve symptoms such as restless sleep, irritability, easy startling, and scanty, dark-yellow urine in children.

Precautions： 

• Use according to the appropriate TCM pattern:
  Traditionally indicated for symptoms associated with food stagnation with heat. It is generally not recommended for children with Spleen and Stomach deficiency-cold or for children without signs of food stagnation.

• Dietary precautions:
  During use, avoid excessive consumption of cold/raw, greasy, or difficult-to-digest foods.

• Monitor the child's condition:
  If symptoms do not improve after one week, consult a physician promptly. Newborns and very young infants should only use this type of herbal preparation under the guidance of a physician or pharmacist.
